Frequently Asked Question
Are Invisalign® aligners painful to wear?
Invisalign® aligners are generally more comfortable than traditional braces, but you may feel mild pressure or soreness when you first start wearing a new set. This is normal and simply means the aligners are working to gently shift your teeth into the desired position.
Will I need to visit my dentist often throughout the treatment?
With Invisalign®, you won’t need as many appointments as you would with traditional braces. Most patients see their dentist every 6 to 8 weeks, where the dentist checks alignment progress and provides the next set of aligners.
How do I care for my aligners?
Keep them clean and clear. You should rinse your aligners every time you remove them and brush them gently with a soft toothbrush to prevent buildup. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the plastic. Always remove aligners before eating or drinking, and store them in their protective case.
Will I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign® treatment?
Yes, wearing a retainer after Invisalign® treatment is an important step to keep your teeth in their new positions. Once your aligners have done their job, your teeth can naturally start shifting back if they aren’t stabilized. A retainer prevents this movement and helps maintain your results long-term.
How long will I have to wear Invisalign®?
Generally, most patients wear their aligners for 12 to 18 months. Some minor adjustments can take as little as 6 months.
How do I clean Invisalign® aligners?
We recommend soaking your aligners in hydrogen peroxide in a closed container and shaking them to loosen any debris. After soaking for 30 minutes, brush the aligners to remove stubborn plaque. Always remember to rinse your aligners before putting them back in your mouth.
What do Invisalign® aligners look like?
You can smile, laugh, and talk without anyone noticing you are wearing Invisalign® aligners. The aligners are made of clear, hard plastic that fits snugly over your teeth.
